Contamination & surveys help

Screening and documentation scope

This module provides contamination and survey calculation support for screening, training, and documentation. It does not replace approved survey procedures, instrument calibration requirements, regulatory release criteria, skin dose assessment, or qualified health physicist review.

References bundled with contamination outputs include 10 CFR Part 20 (regulatory context), NIST SI guidance for quantities, and an internal HPCalc screening note. The app does not embed numeric regulatory limits or release criteria.

What each tool does

  • Wipe (removable): net cpm from gross and background (cpm or counts÷time), dpm = net÷efficiency, dpm/100 cm² with optional geometry correction as divisor.
  • Direct frisk (fixed): net cpm, dpm with optional correction factor, normalized per surveyed area (dpm/cm² and dpm/100 cm²). Geometry and response warnings are qualitative only.
  • Skin screening: estimates dpm from count rate and declared efficiency; optional removable fraction partitions activity for documentation. Skin dose is not calculated without a validated coefficient model in HPCalc.
  • Survey statistics: net counts, net rate (cps), and approximate uncertainty √(gross+background). Not a full MDA or decision-rule workflow.

Tab hash routes

Open the contamination workspace with a hash to land on a specific card:

  • #wipe
  • #direct-frisk (legacy #frisk)
  • #skin-screening (legacy #skin)
  • #survey-statistics

Invalid or empty hashes default to the wipe test tab.

Reports and exports

JSON, Markdown, and plain-text summaries include a contamination section when contaminationReport is present. Skin screening reports record skinDoseCalculated: false. A source / survey note is required for skin screening exports; wipe and direct frisk require a note when geometry or correction factors differ from 1; survey statistics require a note when Documenting for records is checked.

When those rules are not met, the report payload can still validate for on-screen review, but exports and copy-summary stay blocked until documentation is added.

Professional judgment required

Outputs support training and documentation workflows. Facility calibration, survey design, bioassay/medical follow-up, and regulatory interpretations remain outside this module.
