Disclaimer: This software is for radiation protection education, screening calculations, and professional support only. It does not replace qualified health physicist judgment, regulatory requirements, approved procedures, emergency response tools, or formal shielding design review. Exposure, absorbed dose, equivalent dose, and effective dose are distinct quantities; do not equate R and Sv without explicit context and assumptions.

Health Physics Calculations with Confidence

Version, environment, capabilities, and scope boundaries.

Version: 1.0.0-alpha.3

Environment: Production (development or production only; no secrets or raw env vars are shown here.)

Validation status: 3 bundled datasets checked, 3 fully valid, 0 with validation messages. Release builds are also checked with lint, unit tests, production build, and Playwright accessibility smoke/contrast suites (see CHANGELOG.md).

Current capabilities

  • External dose screening calculators (decay, point source, time–distance, narrow-beam shielding) and a radiation unit converter (optional converter report).
  • Nuclide catalog reference view with confidence labels and half-life display.
  • Contamination screening worksheets and internal dose screening tools.
  • Gamma spectroscopy screening and training calculators (energy/efficiency/ROI/FWHM/MDA-style estimates).
  • Air sampling and DAC integration screening (sample volume, concentration, DAC fraction and DAC-hours, filter count, grab-sample documentation).
  • Waste planning and decay-in-storage documentation tools (decay estimator, ten half-lives, inventory worksheet, survey checklist—no disposal authorization).
  • Training Academy modules and quiz progress tracking (browser-local).
  • Zod-validated report payloads with copy summary, JSON, Markdown, and print-friendly views.

Current limitations

  • No certified internal dosimetry, medical evaluation, or regulatory dose assignment.
  • No formal structural shielding design engine (buildup, scatter, broad-beam, workload/occupancy, skyshine, and similar).
  • No peak fitting, spectrum file parsing, automated nuclide ID, or certified spectroscopy lab replacement.
  • No regulatory waste disposal or release determinations, decay-in-storage clearance, or replacement for licensee waste management programs.
  • No replacement for approved procedures, lab QA programs, or licensed vendor workflows.

Data confidence and reports

Bundled and user-entered values use confidence labels (validated, reference-derived, illustrative, user-supplied, placeholder). See Data confidence help for how these affect trust.

Reports capture inputs, assumptions, warnings, references, and disclaimers. Exports can be blocked until required documentation or schema checks pass. See the reports and exports help page for details.

Safety and scope disclaimer

HPCalc is for radiation protection training, screening calculations, and documentation support. It does not replace qualified professional judgment, approved procedures, certified lab methods, or regulatory decision processes.

Accessibility

HPCalc targets Section 508 / WCAG AA accessibility practices, but should not be represented as fully 508 compliant until a formal accessibility audit is completed.

Accessibility help and the accessibility baseline document describe current goals and limitations.
